Clear
Your Throat to Improve Your Singing
Voice
Breathing Techniques are
Important but You Also Need to Learn How to Clear
Your Throat before You Begin to Sing
When it comes to
singing
all notes clearly,
there are a few major and minor things that can
affect performance right up until show time. A
major and often overlooked aspect of singing
ability is having and maintaining a clear throat.
A throat that is clogged up
with mucus can cause your voice to sound creaky or
raspy, and you will come across as sounding
congested. You won't be able to hit the proper high
notes, scales, or be able to perform at a
professional level at all. Even if you're only
performing in the local karaoke contest these tips
might apply to you.
On the other hand, if you are
really looking to improving singing voice and
show off your real talent at an important local
audition, I will suggest a few tips and tricks as
taught by legendary vocalist trainer, Brett
Manning. Brett suggests that for clearing throat,
you use a low-strength or "whisper cough". Emit a
cough that doesn't cause you to expel a lot of
energy. This will help keep your vocal cords from
getting irritated.
Lemon Tips
If you are still having
problems with access mucus, Manning suggests
cutting up a slice of lemon and putting it in some
water.
Sip this drink slowly over a
20 minute or so period. This should help with
overall mucus production. Overall, drinking plenty
of water helps keep mucus levels down naturally. If
you have a junior audition that day, make sure to
avoid dairy products; this should help with excess
levels of mucus in the body as
well.
Quick Singing Lesson -
Breathe, People, Breathe ( My old music director
used to say)
Another good way to expel
mucus from the lungs and improving singing voice is
by deep breathing techniques and exercises that get
your heart rate up. The more you let air into the
lungs, the more you can work out that excess mucus
and fluid build up in your respiratory system.
Breathing deep, filling your
lungs all the way up, then exhaling all oxygen from
your lungs is a good way to increase lung capacity
and breath. If you want to be a great singer, you
must have proper breath control.
Follow these few tips and you
will surely be on your way to being
a better vocalist and singer.
Now, it's off to the stage!
