Preparation
is Important for Winning A Singing Talent Search
Contest
Competing in Local and
National Contests for Singers
Becoming a star is on the
minds of hundreds of thousands, if not millions of
people everywhere. The problem is, there are
thousands of truly talented people who never get a
recording contract nor ever see the light of day in
the entertainment industry.
As such, you need to do
everything possible to get yourself seen and heard.
One way to do this is to enter a singing talent
search contest. These contests might be right
around the area that you live in, or they might be
in a nearby city.
If not, get prepared to
travel (or if you have the money, throw your own
event), because in order to get exposure as a
singer, someone is going to have to see you
first.
The first thing that you want
to consider is how well you perform onstage. You
could do yourself a big favor by holding mock
auditions in a local karaoke bar.
Remember, performers do
things that a normal person might not. If you want
your singing talent to stand out in the performer
search arena, you will need to be willing to do
something in the contest that might be embarrassing
at the time. However, a true performer is thinking
about the audience and not themselves.
You also may want to consider
singing in places that your friends don't hang out.
Why? Because you want to get honest feedback from
the crowd.
Very few people have the
privilege of having friends that will be completely
honest when you are terrible at something (after
all, isn't it their job to make you feel good?) so
a stranger might be more willing to make an honest
comment than a friend.
Don't be insulted if someone
does not like your style, that is not the way to
win singing or talent competitions. You should
listen to any constructive criticism and take to
hear the things that are said to you
consistently.
If you have the opportunity,
consider using a local vocal coach to help you with
things like learning to read sheet music, breathing
techniques and more.
You should only use a coach
that specializes in the style of singing that you
are interested in performing because an opera coach
will teach you opera techniques (like focus and
range) while a rock and roll expert will teach you
how to rasp your voice or sing with an edge.
You want to give yourself
every advantage when it comes to performing in a
singing talent search contest, and applying some of
these voice and stage tips just might do the
trick!
